RED CROSS HELPS PEOPLE AFTER KENDALL SQUARE FIRE
CAMBRIDGE, MA, December 8, 2006 - The American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay is assisting people who were evacuated as a result of the fire at One Broadway. A team of trained American Red Cross disaster relief volunteers is responding to the scene and working with the Kendall Square Marriott to faciliate a temporary space for evacuated people to assemble at. We are sending staff and volunteers to provide canteen services and mental health support should that be needed.
About the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Founded in 1905, the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay is one of the largest chapters in a national network of just over 800 Red Cross units. In 127 cities and towns in eastern Massachusetts, people displaced by fires and other disasters depend on the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay around the clock for temporary shelter, clothes, and food. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on financial contributions to provide direct relief, and to maintain a trained corps of local volunteer responders.
