From global disaster to local relief:  How do we make real impact through civic engagement?

It takes a village to respond to disasters that happen locally, nationally, and abroad.  When disaster strikes, a community's sense of safety and security is often lost and has to be rebuilt again.  Volunteers have played a critical role in response efforts to Katrina, Haiti, Chile and other social issues that plague the world and our local communities.  During this discussion, we will examine the role civic engagement plays in responding to social justice and community issues, the media's impact on awareness and relief, and discuss how to move the international attention to local community action.  Panelists include the Red Cross, Be the Change, Inc., the Boston Globe, and the Green Light Fund.  Event is free and open to the public.

Wednesday, September 15:  6-7:30 PM
Boston Public Library - Rabb Auditorium

Then after the panel (even if you couldn't make it!) join us at Vox for free apps, a cash bar, and the chance to meet and mingle with Boston's civic minded young professionals.  You can also enter to win an exciting raffle prize!  A donation of $10, $15, or $20 is suggested at the door.

Wednesday, September 15:  7-10 PM
